National Peak Shipping Industry Body Announces New CEO

Maritime Industry Australia Limited (MIAL) has today appointed Angela Gillham as the new Chief Executive Officer to lead Australia’s only national leading peak shipping industry body.

The announcement follows the resignation of Teresa Lloyd after almost 20 years of service and proudly representing Australia’s shipping industry on behalf of MIAL’s 78 members.

During this time, Teresa has led MIAL through extensive shipping reforms, navigated significant changes to the industry including the boom of the offshore and the COVID crew change crisis, among her various achievements.

Most recently, Teresa secured bipartisan support to arrest the decline of Australian flagged ships. Soon to be legislated under the incoming Albanese Government, this will have a profound and long-lasting impact on the industry and nation’s security.

Teresa will finish her long-standing tenure in the coming weeks and Angela will commence as CEO from July 1, after being an integral part of MIAL for the past 19 years including five years as deputy CEO.

Angela has a proven track record of delivering outcomes of vital importance. A highly respected industry leader and expert in marine biosecurity, Angela is steadfast in her agenda for action on decarbonisation and ensuring the shipping industry remains viable.

While this appointment marks an exciting new chapter for MIAL, the organisation remains committed to seeing much needed reform passed in parliament and the continual growth of Australia’s shipping industry.

MIAL congratulates outgoing CEO Teresa Lloyd for her outstanding contribution to the shipping industry and wishes her all the best for the future.
