MIAL welcomes new Board and Chair

At last week’s Annual General Meeting in Canberra, Maritime Industry Australia Ltd confirmed the MIAL Board of Directors with 4 new appointments: Emily Pointon, CSL; Videlina Georgieva, Svitzer Australia; Chris Schultz, ANL; and David Sproule, Woodside Energy.

MIAL’s new directors join David Ross, MMA Offshore; Hollie Scoon, Rio Tinto; and David Borcoski of ASP Ships Group who takes the reins of Chair. The board has also once again reappointed Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, AO, CSC, (Rtd) as independent director.

MIAL’s new board reflects the current direction of the association and the context within which it operates, as well as the diversity of MIAL’s membership base, which includes operators of domestic and international trading ships, cruise ships, domestic commercial vessels, the offshore sector, and suppliers of maritime crew.

“The directors represent a considerable depth and breadth of knowledge and experience across the Australian and international maritime sectors, and we are now very well-placed to steer the strategic direction of the organisation at a critical time for the industry,” Borcoski said.

MIAL CEO Angela Gillham said it is pleasing to have such strong engagement and enthusiasm for participation in the work of MIAL at the highest level.

“The makeup of the MIAL board reflects the strong support for the work of MIAL within some of Australia’s most economically important industries.

“MIAL envisions a prosperous Australia with strong, sovereign maritime capability for the economic benefit and security of all Australians. Our Board plays a vital role in steering the ship and I look forward to working with our new team to continue to do just that,” Gillham said.
